Well If You're Psychic, Why Didn't You Know?

Ah yes. The classic. 😄
"Well If You're Psychic, Why Didn't You Know?"
I say classic because I have heard it so many times over the years, and I want you to know, I completely understand why people ask it. It is a fair question. It makes total sense that you would wonder. And honestly? I have asked it of myself too.
When Lee, my best friend of twenty six years, was on life support and I got that message from his mum out of nowhere, I screamed. And then I thought, hang on, I'm a medium. HOW DID I NOT KNOW.
I've felt that same gut punch with my cousin too. Gone far too young. Same question. Same disbelief.
So I want to try and explain it as honestly and as clearly as I can, because I think it really matters.
Psychic Ability Is Not A Crystal Ball
Psychic ability works in impressions and feelings, fragments of something rather than a clear full picture. Think less perfect telephone call, more picking up a radio signal in a storm and doing your absolute best to tune in. It can point you in the right direction without handing you every detail.
Mediumship, when spirit comes through, can be incredibly specific, names, details, things nobody else could know. But psychic impressions about the living work very differently. It is a completely different channel, and that is what I was picking up on with Lee.
I Did Know. I Just Didn't Know It Was Him.
A few weeks before Lee passed I kept receiving impressions of loss and pain around his family. I thought it was his dad, who had been really poorly. I had been quietly preparing myself for that call. I was wrong about who it was.
I did know. I just didn't know it was him.
And I have had to make peace with that. Because being psychic does not mean being able to protect the people you love from the worst moments of their lives. That is one of the hardest and most humbling lessons I have ever had to learn, and it is one that not nearly enough people talk about.
It Comes From A Good Place, Always
So please, if you have ever said or thought "well they didn't see that coming" about a medium or a psychic, I hope this helps it make a little more sense. It comes from a good place, always. I know that.
And if you are sitting with your own version of this, the guilt of not calling that day, not sensing something, not saying what you meant to say, please be so gentle with yourself. We are human first. Always.
